Several locations have been confirmed, including in Louisville and Lexington.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — "Pub Sub" and fried chicken fanatics, rejoice: Publix is set to open several new locations in Kentucky in the coming year, the grocer confirmed.

The popular Lakeland-based grocery store has expanded its presence across the South since its 1930 grand opening in Winter Haven, Florida, but never to the Bluegrass State.

That is, until 2024 when six stores will open to customers. Publix spokesperson Jared Glover confirmed the following list:

Publix first announced in 2021 that it would open its first Kentucky store. In addition to Kentucky and Florida, the grocer also operates in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

"It’s an exciting day for Publix Super Markets as we break ground in our eighth state," said Publix CEO Todd Jones in an earlier statement. "When our founder, George Jenkins, opened the first Publix store, he wanted to create a better grocery store — one that kept associates and customers top of mind.

"More than 90 years later, we’ve kept true to our values, including supporting the communities in which we live and work. We look forward to sharing the Publix difference with Kentuckians."
