Bo-Katan Kryze, the Mandalorian princess played by Katee Sackhoff, who first appeared in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, has played a major role in Season 3 of The Mandalorian. Some fans have complained about the series partially sidelining its star, Pedro Pascal, but IGN reports that the actor himself seems to be completely in favor of the idea.

“I just think it was perfect that we get to meet and see the character, and she gets to do cool sh*t in the second season,” Pedro Pascal said. “And then, she gets to take center stage in the third. It’s what I would want for the character and as a fan of The Clone Wars.”

This response comes after executive producer Rick Fauyiwa hinted that Pedro Pascal’s character might not be the focus of future seasons after saying that the title The Mandalorian could refer to “anyone” at this point. This has led to speculation that the already-confirmed Season 4 will be about Katee Sackhoff’s character, not Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin. In fact, season 3’s ending could arguably be considered a satisfying conclusion to Din Djarin’s character arc, setting up the series to focus on a different Mandalorian character.

However, if the mediocre ratings of Season 3 are any indication, fans of The Mandalorian don’t necessarily agree with Pedro Pascal or Rick Fauyiwa on whether Katee Sackhoff taking center stage is a good thing. This is not necessarily surprising — the series rose to popularity with Pedro Pascal as the lead, and very few series remain as popular as they once were when the protagonist changes. While “The Mandalorian” may eventually end up referring to someone else, Din Djarin will still be The Mandalorian in most fans’ hearts.

In fact, there’s a long history of TV series dropping in popularity once a main character disappears from the cast. Stargate SG1’s ratings dropped after Ben Browder’s Cameron Mitchell replaced Richard Dean Anderson’s Jack O’Neil, and the series only lasted two more seasons after Anderson’s departure. Similarly, the shows House of Cards, Two and a Half Men, and The X-Files lost viewers after removing one of the main characters, with all three long-running shows ending just a few seasons after these actors left.

However, a happy ending and a positive remark about Katee Sackhoff from Pedro Pascal don’t mean that Din Djarin is out of the picture. It’s very easy for a writer to come up with ways to force a character back into action, so there’s still a good chance we will see Din Djarin take up his blaster once more on The Mandalorian. That would undoubtedly come at the expense of Djarin and Grogu’s peaceful life, however — which would be a shame to see for the characters’ sake, if not the audience’s.

In fact, it’s possible that both Pedro Pascal and Rick Fauyiwa’s comments aren’t meant to prepare the world for a season of The Mandalorian that doesn’t center around Din Djarin. Rather, it’s possible that Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan Kryze may have a larger role in a future production — possibly David Filoni‘s upcoming Star Wars film.

However, details are scarce about The Mandalorian Season 4 and the upcoming David Filoni film. So, for now, we can only speculate about the roles that Pedro Pascal and Katee Sackhoff will play in future Star Wars productions.
