Cle Shaheed Sloan: From Gang Member to Actor and Activist
Cle Shaheed Sloan, born in Los Angeles in 1963, was a member of the Athens Park Bloods street gang. However, he worked to reform gang culture and reduce gang violence from the inside. Sloan was introduced to the film industry by Jim Brown, a former professional football player.
After being released from prison, Sloan got a job as an assistant and met director Antoine Fuqua. He went on to star in several movies including “The Replacement Killers”, “Training Day”, “Tears of the Sun”, “Street Kings”, “Brooklyn’s Finest”, and “End of Watch”. He also appeared in episodes of “Southland” in 2012.
Sloan worked as a technical advisor for several TV series, including “Southland”, “Sons of Anarchy”, and “Gang Related”, as well as for the movie “Training Day”. He produced and directed the 2005 documentary “Bastards of the Party” and the upcoming 2015 documentary “America’s Venice”. Sloan was nominated for a Black Reel Award for Best Independent Documentary in 2006.
In January 2015, Sloan was injured in a hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of Terry Carter. The accident was caused by Suge Knight.
